The last Mencey (King) of Taoro
Bencomo was the King of Taoro during the Spanish conquest. His kingdom was made up of lands in the area now known as the Orotava Valley. He led the aborigine forces that resisted the invasion and entered into the history books with the name of the Great King. He died in 1495, at the age of seventy, during the battle that took place against the troops of Adelantado Alonso Fernández de Lugo.
