Municipal district located in Tenerife South
The municipality of Güimar, located in the southeast of the island, not far from the capital Santa Cruz, has a very peculiar terrain, characterised by high sheer walls that stretch down to the sea.The valley of Güimar is home to part of the Corona Forestal natural park and the Siete Lomas reserve. The abrupt volcanic landscape of the Malpaís de Güímar, which borders the coast, is also renowned for its special landscape, the variety of its flora and the importance of its fauna.
The Barranco de Herques ravine, protected and classified as a Natural Monument, is also worth a visit.
Among its cultural features are the Majones de Chacona, the site of the Güimar Pyramids Ethnographic Park. Other special places include the caves once used as living accommodation in the Agache area. Of special traditional interest are the religious processions associated with the celebration of the Bajada del Socorro and of San Pedro.
