Vilaflor de Chasna, of which records exist since the 16th century, has historically been the destination of many scientists, sufferers of ill-health and other visitors, who made the journey from La Orotava along the famous Camino de Chasna trail. Their reasons for visiting Vilaflor may have included its scientific interest or its closeness to Teide, or simply the benefits of its climate or the pleasant tranquillity of its surroundings.
Vilaflor, Spain´s highest municipality at over 1,400 metres above sea level, is immersed in pine forests and almond groves. It also has important architectural features, including the parish church and the ancient stately home of the Soler family, the founders of the village.
The entire municipality provides scenery ideal for trekking, climbing, mountain biking and paragliding. In addition, there are features of immense natural importance, such as Pino Gordo or Tres Pernadas. The village is also famous for its exquisite gastronomy and its wines.
