It is one of three districts in Tenerife that has no coast. It belongs to the Isla Baja region and is situated in the northeast of the island, surrounded by the districts of Garachico, Santiago del Teide and Los Silos.
El Tanque is in a great natural setting. A large part of its territory is taken up by the most important nature parks of the island. This is the case of the Corona Forestal Nature Park, the Teno one or the Special Nature Reserve of Chinyero.
In an area where agriculture is the main economic activity, it is worth mentioning the importance of its traditions. Examples of which are the fiestas in honour of the Santo Cristo del Calvario, the fiesta of San Antonio de Padua or the one of Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje.
A visit to historical centre of El Tanque allows you to appreciate its architectural heritage, in particular the Town Hall building, the Caserón de los Guzmanes and the houses of Los Martelos and la Alhóndiga.
