Santa cruz will host on November 23rd the Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Cup 2009 

· Real Club Náutico de Tenerife is part of the organization of this spectacular event with the largest sailing ships . · There are six boats registered from several spots of the planet

This race will start on November 23rd From Santa Cruz Harbor and will end in Saint Marteen (Netherlands Antilles) on the second week of December Six is the number of sailing ships registered in this transoceanic race organized by Maxi Association (IMA) in association with Real Club Náutico de Tenerife and supported by Marteen Yacht Club from Netherlands Antilles, and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda from Porto Cervo, in Sardinia, Italy. This race is also supported by Puertos de Tenerife and Turismo de Tenerife. The yachts registered in the competition are Aime Sea (35.05 meters long from Cayman Islands), Alexia (30 meters long from Argentina), Beau Geste (24,33 meters long), Crisco (30.38 ms. from Germany), Sojana (34,99 ms from Great Britain) and Valkyrie (23,06ms from Canada). They are all unique and splendid boats from several spots of the world which holds a large crew and offer a beautiful picture while sailing thanks to the size of their sails. Real club Náutico de Tenerife plays a main role in the development of this track, that took place for the first time in 2007 under the name of Translatlantic Maxi Rolex Yatch Cup. In the last edition the winner boat, Nariida II, raced the 2.700 miles through Atlantic Ocean in Fourteen days- 2009 Schedule On November 20th, boats will be tested and inspected with the IRC system and categories used by IMA to the fleet docked at Marina de Santa Cruz. The harbour of RCNT is not big enough to dock them. In this race all the sailing ships host more than 18 meters long. This day will be a welcome cocktail to the crews. On Saturday the 21st, technicians will follow inspecting the boats and the crews can go in excursions to La Laguna city and Observatorio Astrofísico de El Teide In the afternoon of Saturday, the 22nd will be the official presentation and a late night party. On Monday, the 23rd, the race will start. The starting signal will be about 13.00 pm in the coast of Santa Cruz. The award ceremony will be on December 12th in Dutch Antilles.
