Canarian Balconies

Traditional Tenerife architecture

Traditional architecture in the Canaries ranges from grand stately homes to smaller, more humble dwellings. It finds its roots in Andalusia and Portugal, but above all has its own strong character. The most significant features of Tenerife's stately homes are their typical balconies and inner patios, with fine examples to be found in La Orotava and La Laguna. Both features are essentially made of wood, usually the Island's typical tea pine wood, which is often painstakingly decorated by craftsmen.
