Abona

The region of Abona in southern Tenerife produces full-bodied white wines, as well as a variety of reds and rosés that are very much deserving of this designation of origin. The long hours of sunshine in the region and the porous nature of its volcanic soils that absorb plenty of humidity are the keys to achieving exquisite grapes, particularly the Listán Blanca variety. The vineyards in the region of Abona range from altitudes of 400 to 1,700 m (1,310 to 5,580 ft) above sea level. The municipality of Vilaflor grow vines at the highest altitude in all of Spain, boosted by a mild Mediterranean climate, the gentle influence of the trade winds and extraordinarily healthy conditions for the plants. The flavour of the D.O. Abona wines conveys notes of almond flower, mango and banana, creating a subtle fruity bouquet.

The region covers the following municipalities in the south of the Island:

  • Adeje
  • Arona
  • Vilaflor
  • San Miguel de Abona
  • Granadilla de Abona
  • Arico
  • Fasnia
