Señor del Pino Chapel

Arafo is home to an ancient pine tree that has stood there since before the conquest. In the 18th century, three crosses were placed at the foot of the tree and this gave the area its name: “El Calvario” (meaning the Calvary), which was intended to be a resting place on the Way of the Cross at Easter. The chapel was built in the second half of the 19th century after a local resident placed a figure of Christ on the Cross at the foot of this great tree. Today, the chapel is one of the town's loveliest landmarks.
