For nature lovers and star-gazers, the island of La Palma is like paradise. Classed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the staggering height it reaches above sea level makes the island a great place for observing the wonders of the night sky. This is why the peak of Roque de los Muchachos houses a series of telescopes. Meanwhile, Caldera de Taburiente National Park combines agricultural landscapes with lush forests and lovely trails along which to discover its hidden secrets. The beaches of Puerto de Naos and Los Cancajos are the perfect place to relax in the sun, have fun in the sea and unwind in a calm, family-friendly environment. The capital city, Santa Cruz de La Palma, preserves a wealth of Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical heritage that makes for a lovely walk along its streets, with the odd stop to sample the island's typical dishes. You can get to La Palma from Tenerife by boat from Puerto de los Cristianos, or by plane from the Tenerife North or Reina Sofía airports.
