The north-east of Tenerife is known as Isla Baja, comprising the municipalities of Buenavista del Norte, Garachico, Los Silos and El Tanque. Sport, relaxation and nature are the key elements in this part of the Island, particularly in Teno Country Park. Visitors are drawn here by the traditional charm of its towns and villages and the adventure of hiking through its singular scenery at any time of year. They come in search of a different kind of holiday, with friends or family, to spend quality time together in a country cottage or hotel.

Garachico was once the trade hub of Tenerife, and is now a seaside jewel. Its historic quarter is classed as an Asset of Cultural Interest and has earned the Gold Medal of Fine Arts for its beautifully preserved heritage, dating from the 16th and 17th century. Its unique natural swimming pools and rock pools known as El Caletón were formed by a volcanic eruption in the 18th century and have recently become a favourite bathing spot equipped with all of the amenities and services you might need.

Nestled amidst the ravines in the municipality of Buenavista del Norte is the hamlet of Masca, one of the finest samples of Canarian country architecture. This is the starting point for a variety of trails that amble down towards hidden bays, and it is also one of the places that has best preserved the Island's craftsmanship. The hamlets of El Palmar and Teno Alto also feature great examples of Tenerife's typical country houses. The historic quarter of Buenavista del Norte is home to plenty of monuments, buildings and squares in which to experience what life would historically have been like for Tenerife's inhabitants, and there are various walking routes you can take to explore it.
