Despite the extraordinary diversity in Tenerife, distances are always short and it is possible to travel all the way round the island in a day. From the south, these tours leave the main southern tourist resorts heading north-east in the direction of the Cliffs of Los Gigantes. From there, the tour goes up to Santiago del Teide towards the northern districts of El Tanque, Icod de los Vinos, La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz. There are many attractive sights on the way, including the thousand-year old Dragon Tree in Icod, a symbol of the island. The return trip south by motorway gives you the chance to see the Basilica of Candelaria, patron saint of the Canary Islands, located in the town of Candelaria.
