Gofio La Molineta la Estrella de Oro is a traditional windmill created in 1866 which is devoted to the preparation of a Canarian product made from cereals: Gofio.

The windmill was built on the outskirts of the city of La Laguna, surrounded by large fields for the cultivation of cereals. Now, thanks to the growth of the city, it is almost in the city centre and is run by the fourth generation of millers.

Gofio, which is mainly used for breakfast and typical dishes of Canarian cuisine, can be of several different kinds: seven cereals, chickpeas, traditional wheat, a special sort for younger children or even roasted differently for the more delicate consumer. All of them are ground using the native method of the millstone.

Without ever abandoning the traditional essence, Gofio La Molineta has always made a commitment to innovation. This ancient company was the first mill with an electricity connection in San Cristóbal de La Laguna and was also a pioneer in the use of packaging machinery for marketing and distribution. Nowadays it remains true to its passion for innovation by taking part in R&D projects with the University of La Laguna and by encouraging consumption through the Tenerife Rural project run by the Tenerife Cabildo or Island Authority.
