Autumn, time for festivals

MiradasDoc, Cortos de La Orotava or CineEsCena are some of the events taking place in Tenerife from November on.

Guía de Isora Auditorium, venue for MiradasDoc

In the coming months Tenerife will host a series of important events that have taken place on the Island for a number of years and have an impact in the sphere of audiovisual production. One of them is MiradasDoc, International Documentary Film Festival, which will be held in Guía de Isora from 1 to 8 November 2014 and aims at offering an overview of the prevalence and validity of films on reality. This is its ninth year, which means it is one of the veterans in the Island’s festival scene.

MiradasDoc does not only offer official competition sections, including several awards, but it is also a renowned documentary film market in which screening and pitching (a short presentation of a project) sessions are held. In addition to this there are other activities like concerts, conferences, round tables, meetings and exhibitions.

Shortly after MiradasDoc, there is Festival de Cortos Villa de La Orotava, which offers a selection of the best national and local short films. A programme which includes recent films outside mainstream productions draws the audience into the event. This year, the festival will take place on 13, 14 and 15 November.

Another option, equally good for film and food lovers, is the IV Festival Internacional de Cine Gastronómico Ciudad de La Laguna, also known as CineEsCena. The festival, which this year runs from 21 to 29 November, will pay tribute to India and will offer a retrospective of reputed Hong Kong director Won Kar-wai apart from many other activities including film marathons, different types of contests (there is a competitive section for feature, short and documentary films), screenings related to gastronomy –Canal Cocina- and film –TV Series screenings -, gastronomic evenings in the city of La Laguna and many events and exhibitions where both film and gastronomy national star guests will take part.

November is packed with documentaries, short films and loads of food. All we have to do is wait.
