New Year’s Eve is celebrated in a different way in Tenerife. Everyone is looking forward to this moment; a year comes to an end and a new one begins. In Spain, the church bell plays a very important role. When the clock strikes midnight, people eat 12 grapes, one for each stroke of midnight, to ensure good fortune in the coming year. Are you in Tenerife and do not know where to spend New Year’s Eve? Then read our recommendations.
New Year’s Eve in the city
If you would like to experience the carillon in the city together with the locals, you should consult the festival programme of the respective municipality. Whether in the north or in the south, it is common that around the churches and church squares numerous events with concerts, performances and fireworks are organised.
The best way is to visit one of the tourist information offices. Our colleagues will be happy to help you and give you all the information you need.
New Year’s Eve at the hotel
Hotels usually celebrate big New Year’s Eve galas in a relaxed atmosphere with exclusive gala dinners and events where you can live a great night with other holiday-makers.
Ask at the hotel reception or check out the New Year’s Eve programme of your hotel. Especially when you are here with your family, it is a comfortable option to celebrate it together with your children.
New Year’s Eve in clubs and discotheques
You are looking for a stylish New Year’s Eve, in an exclusive location and with great music? In Tenerife, venues such as the Monkey Beach Club and the Papagayo Beach Club have prepared unique events for this special night. The trendiest DJs with an amazing repertoire of music will bring you a glamorous New Year’s Eve.
New Year’s Eve in nature
The moment everyone gathers in the cities, in big squares, private or public parties, it may be the best time of the year to escape the hustle and bustle, relax and celebrate a different New Year’s Eve in nature.
Perhaps a long walk along the beach, with the sound of the waves welcoming the New Year, or the impressive starry sky in the Mount Teide National Park… Our landscapes provide the perfect setting for an unforgettable and unique New Year’s Eve. But always remember to keep our environment clean and do not litter! Tenerife as every single corner of our planet should remain as beautiful as it is now for our future generations.
After the end of the year…
With the arrival of 2019 the festivities do not stop. In Spain we celebrate one of the greatest traditions for children and adults at the beginning of January: The Three Kings’ Parade.
During the night of January 5th, the Three Wise Men begin their majestic procession with magical power. The children receive them with great enthusiasm, because in the early morning of January 6th they will visit all the houses (of course only those whose children behaved well) to bring them gifts.
Surely one of these parades will be organised in your area. Don’t miss it! It is a unique event for an unforgettable start into the New Year in Tenerife.
