Rave Culture, La Gaveta Producciones project

The Tenerife Film Commission (TFC) continues to report on news and on what makes Tenerife an increasingly attractive place for international series and feature film projects. For this reason, between 1st and 5th March we will be attending the online version of the European Film Market (EFM), the market within the Berlinale, and the Miradas Doc Market on 2nd and 3rd March. Associated producers Volcano Films, Canary Productions, La Gaveta Producciones, Macaronesia Films and Seven Islands Film will attend the industry side of the Berlinale. At the EFM a promo reel will also be screened, which shows a selection of scenes from six Canaries films pending release. Canary Unleashed includes four works shot in Tenerife.

Within the Visitors programme of the Co-Production Forum, part of the EFM, following the selection and financing of Canary Islands Films, Canary Productions will be presenting their documentary project ClanDestiny, and La Gaveta Producciones their documentary film Rave Culture.

Meanwhile, Volcano Films, Macaronesia Films and Seven Islands Film will be attending the European Film Market (online, 1st-5th March) in search of international projects for which they can provide production services or get involved in potential co-productions. The Tenerife Film Commission will also be available during the event to organise meetings and explain in detail the 45-50% tax incentives for national and international productions, as well as to put international production companies in touch with Tenerife’s excellent audiovisual industry.

Ariadna Gil, actress, and Guillermo Ríos, director of ‘Just Once’

In turn, six feature films produced in the Canary Islands, four of which were shot in Tenerife, will share some scenes for the first time in the promo reel Canary Unleashed, organised by the Canary Islands Audiovisual Cluster. This will be screened on 2nd March at 11:00am, on 3rd March at 19:00 and 4th March at 10:00 for accredited attendees of the European Film Market.

The films partially shot in Tenerife are road movie Our Father (Rendir los machos) by David Pantaleón, produced by Volcano Films (Spain) and Noodles Production (France); the innovative They Carry Death (Ellos transportan la muerte) by Samuel M. Delgado and Helena Giró produced by El Viaje Films. Tenerife actor Álex García, Ariadna Gil and Silvia Alonso star in the lightly comedic drama Just Once (Solo una vez) by director Guillermo Ríos, who is also a native of Tenerife. It has been produced by Álamo Producciones, 1/4 AIE and River Flow Pictures. Also, documentary Juan Alfredo Amil’s Absolution (Absolución de Juan Alfredo Amil) by Juan Alfredo Amil, produced by 416 Studio.

‘ClanDestiny’ project from Canary Productions

ClanDestiny —produced by Canary Productions— is a documentary that looks immigration in the eye. It tells the story, following the figures that flood the opening credits of migrants arriving on the Canary Islands, of Mamadou, a young man who arrived on Tenerife in a dugout canoe 15 years previously when he was just 12 years old, on his first return trip to Senegal, the country where he was born. As well as following his meeting with his family, it also shows us the vision of a young Senegalese woman who is dreaming of a better future, and the Canarian-Venezuelans who return to the Canary Islands after years of emigration.

Rave Culture, produced by La Gaveta Producciones, is a historical music documentary about the breakbeat genre in London 30 years ago, analysing an era and a completely new way of making music. For the first time, DJs and people who aren’t musicians and don’t know how to play an instrument make music thanks to the sampler.

The Tenerife Film Commission will also attend the Miradas Doc Market, this time in an online format. 2nd March will provide an opportunity to find out about projects by the co-production forum AFROLATAM (Africa and Latin America), and on 3rd March we will attend the DOCUSUR international projects pitch. Also being held on those days are ANIDOCS SUR LAB, an animated documentary lab, and DEBUT WIP, a work in progress lab.

Meanwhile, the Miradas Doc festival that offers a direct view of the social reality of the world through the eyes of documentary makers, will be held in Guía de Isora, Tenerife. Between 26th February and 6th March it will show the works that have been submitted to the competition, an exquisite selection of the more than 700 documentaries put forward.
