Leading animation studios in Tenerife attend MIFA and Kidscreen

The animation studios located in Tenerife 3 Doubles Producciones, B Water Studios, In Efecto Atlantis,
Mondo TV Studios and Tomavision will take part in the upcoming edition of Marché International du Film
d’Animation (MIFA) [Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market] that will be held in the city
of Annecy in the Alps from 14 to 17 June.

Tenerife Film Commission will also attend this major event of the global animation industry, held in parallel to the Annecy Festival. It will attend at the Animation from Spain stand, working in collaboration with Canary Islands Film.

This year’s edition of MIFA will return to a fully face-to-face basis following the pandemic. This industry
event is held on almost 8,000 m2 at the iconic Imperial Palace Hotel in Annecy and will play host to close to 100 activities and lectures with more than 150 stands.

The representation from Tenerife at Annecy, under the umbrella of Animation from Spain, will outline its experience in managing the attractive tax breaks offered by the island for the audio-visual industry, particularly for animation.

These breaks include a tax incentive of 45-50% for national and international productions, Corporate Income Tax of only 4% for new companies in the Canary Islands Special Zone (ZEC) and exemption from the local IGIC tax.

Animation from Spain is organised by ICEX Spain Trade & Investment, which is also preparing a series of activities for the promotion and networking of Spanish companies, their projects and content, included on the official agenda of MIFA 2022.

For those companies based in Tenerife that travel to Annecy, the event is also a great opportunity to make contact with potential partners in person for the different projects they are working on, either as producers or as service providers for production.

In the case of the 2D and 3D animation studio 3 Doubles Producciones, headed up by its CEO Darío Sánchez, it has just finished the production of the CGI feature film Inspector Sun and The Course of The Black Widow together with The Thinklab Media and RTVE and has set up an association with the Canadian company Groupe PVP and Capitán Araña for the CGI animated film Four Days Before Christmas. The projects it is developing include the 2D series Kukuxumusu, El Libro de los Sueños and the CGI feature film Mr. Lonely.

Headed up by Dirk Hampel, B-Water Studios is producing the 3D feature film Fina & The Yomis and the TV movie 3D Treasure Trekkers, applying a hybrid pipeline. The projects it is developing include the 3D film Ombak and the 2D series Dino Daze for German television.

In Efecto Atlantis, headed up by its founder and CEO, Raúl Carbó Perea, is producing the full CGI series for Disney Channel, Tara Duncan and The Spellbinders, with its second season now under way. It is also working on important series projects of an international scope for the end of the year, which are still confidential.

With María Bonaria Fois as CEO and Enrico Martinis as Director, Mondo TV Studios will present the new 2D series at MIFA Annie & Carola. Mondo is also working on the series Letrabots and One Love, co productions with Mondo TV S.p.A, which it also has the distribution rights over.

Tomavision, headed up by Mecerdes Marro, is working on the second season of the 2D series Tulipop, and is developing the live action series Zoe, fuera de juego.

Mondo TV Studios, B Water Studio and BlackOut Films, a digital laboratory in Tenerife, will also attend Kidscreen Summit 2022, the animation industry trade fair that will be held in Miami from 18 to 21 July.

It is worth mentioning that from 4 to 5 p.m. on 19 July, Kidscreen will host a networking event on the benefits and opportunities for animation in the Canary Islands.

Tenerife Film Commission will be represented there by Canary Islands Film, which will have a space on the Animation from Spain stand.
