A 4-day trip \u2013 don\u2019t be a tourist, be a traveller! <\/strong><\/p>\n

By plane, car, boat and the most authentic one: by our own feet<\/em><\/p>\n

From the stars in the skies to the stars of the ocean.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This morning we went to a breathtakingly beautiful place on the west coast of the island, called Los Gigantes, or \u201cCliffs of the Giants\u201d in English\u2026<\/p>\n

We swapped our car for a boat and our casual wear for swimwear \u2013 can you guess what we did next? Yes, we went journeying out on the Atlantic Ocean where we enjoyed the warm sun, swam in the sea and were overwhelmed by the Cliffs of the Giants. It is hard not to be impressed by the volcanic walls which reach up to 600 meters high and fall dramatically into the ocean. You feel so small looking up at their walls yet so empowered by the experience at the same time\u2026<\/p>\n

Apart from the stunning scenery, we did something that I never expected to do at sea in this part of Europe: whale and dolphin watching!
\nTenerife has become the most important place in Europe for spotting whales in their natural habitat.
\nThe south-west of Tenerife is home to twenty-one different species of marine mammals<\/a> that live close by to the coast or are journeying through on vacation like us ;-).
\nSome of the species you can observe are Bottlenose dolphins and Short-finned pilot whales which settle in the same place all year.<\/p>\n

It was really amazing to see them jumping out of the water so close to our boat with the families or pods of whales proudly presenting us their cute babies (calves). On board, the children’s eyes sparkled with joy and the adults were moved by the dance of the Cetaceans.<\/p>\n

\nAs we drove further out to sea, somebody shouted something I struggled to understand at first\u2026all my fellow passengers\u2019 eyes had turned to watch the horizon. And then I saw a big water fountain and a huge dark shadow\u2026 I couldn\u2019t believe it! We were one of the few lucky ones that day to observe the biggest traveller of the marine mammals – the giant blue whale! What an experience!
\nSo, when you are in Tenerife, take this chance to see up close marine mammals in their habitat; I only can not recommend this highly enough to you!<\/p>\n

Apart from whale and doplphin watching you can do a lot more activities in the clear blue Atlantic Ocean: kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking, stand-up paddle surfing, sailing, diving…<\/p>\n

Go on and try something new! A holiday is the best time to challenge yourself.
\nAnd this is exactly what I will do on my next trip to Tenerife: diving. I can\u2019t wait to go underwater and see more marine life thriving in their ocean home.<\/p>\n
