The film is the<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:1276,&quot;335559737&quot;:1127}\">\u00a0<\/span>return of Carrera to animation in long format after\u00a0his\u00a0debut with the short film &#8220;El<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:1276,&quot;335559737&quot;:1127}\">\u00a0<\/span>h\u00e9roe&#8221;\u00a0in 1994\u00a0(Golden Palm of the Cannes Film Festival). After its world premiere at the Annecy<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:1276,&quot;335559737&quot;:1127}\">\u00a0<\/span>Festival in 2017, the film will have its commercial\u00a0release in Mexican theatres next August.\u00a0<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559685&quot;:1276,&quot;335559737&quot;:1127}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the Best Series category, the prize went to &#8220;The Tiniest Man in the World&#8221;, a stop motion<br \/>\nproduction by renowned Argentinean animator Juan Pablo Zaramella that presents in chapters<br \/>\nof one minute the adventures that the smallest man in the world experiences in daily life.<br \/>\nBesides, the Spanish director Alberto V\u00e1zquez won the Best Short Film award for &#8220;Decorado&#8221;.<br \/>\nProduced in 2D animation, this is the third short film by V\u00e1zquez that previously directed<br \/>\n&#8220;Birdboy&#8221; and &#8220;Sangre de unicornio&#8221; and that in 2015 he made the leap to the feature film<br \/>\nwith &#8220;Birdboy, the forgotten children&#8221;.<br \/>\nThe Quirino also recognized works in six other categories: Animation School Short Film,<br \/>\nCommissioned Film, Innovative Work, Best Visual Development, Best Animation Design and\u00a0Best Sound Design and Original Music.<\/p>\n<p>The international jury was integrated by the film historian Giannalberto Bendazzi, the producer<br \/>\nand distributor Eleanor Coleman (Indie Sales), the producer and consultant Joan Lofts and the<br \/>\nanimators David Feiss and Ra\u00fal Garc\u00eda. Presented by the actress Noelia Noto and the Brazilian producer Marta Machado, the gala featured interventions by Carlos Alonso, President of the Cabildo de Tenerife; Alberto Bernab\u00e9, Vice President and Minister of Tourism, Internationalization and External Action of<br \/>\nthe Cabildo de Tenerife; and Jos\u00e9 I\u00f1esta and Jose Luis Farias, spokespersons for the Quirino<br \/>\nAwards.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most special moments of the ceremony was the tribute made to Quirino Cristiani,<br \/>\nItalian-Argentine director in charge in 1917 of the first feature film of sound animation of the<br \/>\nworld. During the ceremony were projected images of &#8220;Without a Trace (life and work of Quirino Cristiani)&#8221;, a documentary by Diego Kartaszewicz that portrays the life and work of this\u00a0 animator, draftsman and cartoonist.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>total of 273 works of 14 countries participated<\/strong> in this first edition of Quirino Awards which<br \/>\nhas as main sponsor the Tourism department of Tenerife, reflecting the determined<br \/>\ncommitment that is being made for the animation for years on the island, not only with these<br \/>\nawards but with the presence in the main events and markets, attracting new companies, as<br \/>\nwell as with the support to the flourishing local sector.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the initiative has the sponsorship of the City of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife<br \/>\nEspacio de las Artes (TEA) and Iberia Express; the collaboration of ICAA, Ibermedia Program,<br \/>\nAECID, Tenerife Auditorium, Universidad de la Laguna and RTVE; and the support of DIBOOS,<br \/>\nSAVE, Pixelatl, 3D Wire, TLP Tenerife, Annecy Festival, Barreira Arte + Dise\u00f1o and Universitat<br \/>\nPolit\u00e9cnica de Valencia, as well as the support of the associations: APA &#8211; Association of Animation Production Companies of C\u00f3rdoba Argentina; ANIMAR CLUSTER &#8211; Argentinian Animation Cluster &amp; VFX; ABCA &#8211; Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira de Cinema de Anima\u00e7\u00e3o; Animachi Chile; GEMA Colombia &#8211; Group of Animation Entrepreneurs; Guild of Animators of Ecuador; ACDMX &#8211; Association of Digital Creatives of Mexico; and Casa da Anima\u00e7ao of Portugal.
