Sometimes it is really difficult to decide which hikes to do in Tenerife. The impressive coastal landscape, its legendary volcanoes, its lush forests… There is a huge selection! For this reason, we have put together the top 10 hiking trails in Tenerife in this blog post. Get to know some of the best routes of the island.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alto de Guajara<\/h2>\n

This path<\/span> <\/a>takes you on a continuous ascent through some of the most curious places on Mount Teide. The hike starts in Degollada de Guajara and takes you to Alto de Guajara at 2,715 meters. During the ascent you can see the southern slope of the island as well as the rest of the islands of the archipelago.<\/span><\/p>\n

Monta\u00f1a Blanca \u2013 Pico del Teide<\/h2>\n

This hike is one of the hardest and most rewarding trails<\/span><\/a> at the same time in the Teide National Park. Its difficulty is high and it takes about five hours to complete it. The beginning is the Monta\u00f1a Blanca path, which leads you almost to the top of Mount Teide (only 200 metres from the summit). When you arrive at the viewpoint Mirador de la Fortaleza<\/span><\/a>, you can see the entire northern slope of Tenerife.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you want to climb the highest summit of Spain, you need a special permit<\/span><\/a> for the last 200 metres to Mount Teide. You can also stay at the Altavista refuge<\/span><\/a> and, if you get up early enough, even see one of the most beautiful sunrises.<\/span><\/p>\n

Malpa\u00eds de G\u00fc\u00edmar<\/h2>\n

Contrasts of volcanic rocks and the blue sea await you on this path that runs through the Natural Reserve of Malpa\u00eds de G\u00fc\u00edmar<\/span><\/a>. It is a circular walk, so the beginning and the end are the same, which makes the route easier. On the path you can see some of the endemic species of the archipelago, such as spurge, cardons<\/span><\/a> or tabaibas<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cruz del Carmen – Punta del Hidalgo<\/h2>\n

Start the hike in the green forests of Anaga until you reach the rugged coast of Punta del Hidalgo… That’s the challenge of the 10-kilometre Cruz del Carmen – Punta del Hidalgo trail<\/span><\/a>, which takes about four hours. On the way you will find interesting landscapes, such as the laurel forest to more rural areas or small hamlets such as Chinamada.<\/span><\/p>\n

Siete Ca\u00f1adas<\/h2>\n

This is a particularly beautiful trail at night<\/span><\/a>. In June, the blue bugloss flowers first, and later the red bugloss of Mount Teide. The hike can be easily connected with public transport, both at the beginning and at the end. Therefore, it is advisable to check the timetables in advance, bearing in mind that the total distance takes about four and a half hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

San Jos\u00e9 de los Llanos – Monta\u00f1a Chinyero<\/h2>\n

It is a low difficulty trail<\/span><\/a> and just under 4 kilometres. The path runs through pine forests and volcanic landscapes typical of the Chinyero<\/span><\/a> area. Chinyero is the last volcano that erupted on Tenerife, more than a century ago. So it’s a great opportunity to explore the island’s recent volcanic history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Los Silos – Cuevas Negras \u2013 Erjos<\/h2>\n

On this hike<\/span><\/a>, which begins in the village of Erjos, you discover the natural wonders of the northwestern tip of Tenerife. Formerly this was a royal road that connected the coast of Los Silos with the summit of the Valle de Santiago, so some of its sections are paved.<\/span><\/p>\n

Los Silos – Talavera – El Palmar<\/h2>\n

With destination El Palmar<\/span><\/a> we leave Los Silos and walk surrounded by the native flora, which mixes with the agricultural landscape. If you want unforgettable views of Isla Baja<\/span><\/a>, this is your route.<\/span><\/p>\n

On this hike, which begins in the village of Vilaflor, you walk through the so-called “Lunar Landscape” in the municipality of Granadilla.
