The selection reflects the richness, creativity and diversity of the animation produced in the Ibero-American space and includes everything from films for the public to author or experimental works made by both consecrated filmmakers and new talents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With 14 works each, Spain and Portugal top the list of countries with the greatest participation, followed by Argentina and Brazil with 10 nominations respectively. Among the nominees are also works from Chile (4), Mexico (4), Bolivia (2), Colombia (2), Costa Rica (1) and Paraguay (1), which aspire to be finalists in the nine categories of the Awards: feature film, series, short film, school short film, animation for video game, commissioned film, visual development, animation design and sound design and original music. The <strong>39 nominated works<\/strong> were selected from the 219 applications received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nSpanish film \u201cKlaus\u201d and the Portuguese short films \u201cUncle Thomas Accounting\nfor the Days\u201d and \u201cNestor\u201d are the works with the highest number of nominations\n(4 each). Among those selected are works nominated for the Oscar and Goya\nawards, and others selected and awarded at international festivals such as\nAnnecy, Locarno, TIFF, DokLiepzig, IDFA or Havana, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nPortuguese animation confirms its good moment tripling its presence compared to\nlast year. This growth, together with the usual presence of Brazilian works in the\nQuirino Awards, triggers the participation of films in Portuguese, which come\nto cover some of the categories such as Best Short Film and Best Visual\nDevelopment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Feature\nFilms, Series and Short Films<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"690\" height=\"460\" src=\"http:\/\/www.webtenerife.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20190406-006_47643143022_o-690x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3088\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.webtenerife.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20190406-006_47643143022_o-690x460.jpg 690w, https:\/\/www.webtenerife.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20190406-006_47643143022_o-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.webtenerife.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20190406-006_47643143022_o-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.webtenerife.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20190406-006_47643143022_o.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Animation\naimed to the family audience predominates in the <strong>Best Ibero-American\nAnimation Feature Film<\/strong> category, in which Spain accumulates three\nnominations: <strong>&#8220;Klaus&#8221;<\/strong>, the first feature film by Sergio Pablos\nOscar-nominated animator in the category Best Animated Feature Film and\ndistributed by Netflix; \u201c<strong>Turu, the Wacky Hen<\/strong>\u201d, Spanish-Argentine\nco-production that has more than 84 thousand spectators in Spain since its\npremiere on January 1st; and &#8220;<strong>Elcano and Magellan, The First Voyage\nAround the World<\/strong>&#8220;, new feature by \u00c1ngel Alonso (&#8220;El ladr\u00f3n de\nsue\u00f1os &#8220;) nominated for the Goya 2020 Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ncategory is completed with the Chilean \u201c<strong>Homeless<\/strong>\u201d, a film aimed at the\nadult audience, inspired by the successful TV series written and directed by\nJorge Campusano, Jos\u00e9 Navarro and Santiago O&#8217;Ryan; the Argentinian &#8220;<strong>The\nLongleg<\/strong>&#8220;, a film made in cut-out and photo-collage directed by\nMercedes Moreira (only female director nominated in this category); and the\nColombian \u201c<strong>Reconciliation Stories<\/strong>\u201d, a transmedia social research project\nthat collects stories of violence victims in Colombia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\nthe other hand, works from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Spain, Portugal and Mexico\nwill seek to be finalists in the category <strong>Best Ibero-American Animation\nSeries<\/strong>. Among the nominees are series broadcasted on some of the main\nanimation channels in the region, such as the Chilean \u201c<strong>The Legend of Zeta\nand Ozz<\/strong>\u201d (Cartoon Network Latin America); the Argentinian \u201c<strong>Mini Beat\nPower Rockers<\/strong>\u201d (Discovery Kids); the Spanish \u201c<strong>Momonsters<\/strong>\u201d (TVE),\nwhich has the participation, among others, of the Tenerife studios 3Doubles\nProducciones and Vitotito; the Mexican \u201c<strong>Space Chickens in Space<\/strong>\u201d (Disney\nXD Latin America); and the Brazilian \u201c<strong>Tain\u00e1 and the Amazon&#8217;s Guardians<\/strong>\u201d\n(Nickelodeon). This category is completed with \u201c<strong>Crias<\/strong>\u201d (RTP), a didactic\nseries that brings together 29 filmmakers from Portugal and France and was\nselected in the last edition of the Annecy festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Portugal\nand Brazil lead the nominations in the category <strong>Best Ibero-American\nAnimation Short Film<\/strong>. In this category, the Portuguese animation is represented\nby \u201c<strong>Uncle Thomas Accounting for the Days<\/strong>\u201d, a new short film by the\nrenowned director Regina Pessoa (\u201cTragic Story with Happy Ending\u201d, \u201cKali, the\nLittle Vampire\u201d) who has participated in more than 80 festivals worldwide;\n&#8220;<strong>Purpleboy<\/strong>&#8220;, a reflection on the gender identity directed by\nthe Brazilian Alexandre Siqueira; and &#8221; <strong>The\nPeculiar Crime of Oddball Mr Jay<\/strong> &#8220;, a stop-motion\nfilm directed by Bruno Caetano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<strong>I\nBleed<\/strong>\u201d, a work based on a true story that seeks to make visible the daily\nlife of a person with HIV; and \u201c<strong>Flesh<\/strong>\u201d, animated documentary directed by\nCamila Kater, are the Brazilian short films nominated in this category, which\nis completed with the Colombian film \u201c<strong>The Cubicbird<\/strong>\u201d, recognized as Best\nAnimated Short Film in the latest edition of Bogoshorts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An international jury will choose three finalists in each\ncategory, that will aim for the awards to be delivered at the ceremony on April\n18th in Tenerife. The finalists of each category will be announced at Casa de\nAm\u00e9rica de Madrid on Tuesday, February 18th. For this, a new edition of the <strong>Ibero-American Co-production and\nBusiness Forum<\/strong> will be developed, which will take place on April 17th and\n18th in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participation in this Forum is open to professionals from Latin\nAmerica, Portugal, Andorra and Spain, as well as distributors, channels, sales\nagents and potential co-producers from the rest of Europe and North America\ninterested in Ibero-American animation. <strong>Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Disney\nTV Animation, Discovery Kids, Sesame Workshop, Zodiak Kids, RTVE, Human Ark,\nMomakin, Barley Films<\/strong> and <strong>Indie Sales<\/strong> are some of the channels and\ncompanies that have already confirmed their participation in the forum, which\nhas the collaboration of ICEX and Animation From Spain.
