The event, which has the main\nsponsorship of the Cabildo de Tenerife through the Tenerife Film Commission,\nhad planned to celebrate its third edition on April 18th in the city of Santa\nCruz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the aim of\npromoting the Ibero-American animation, Quirino month proposes different\nactivities aimed at both professionals and the general public. The program is\nmade up of the awards ceremony, which will take place online on June 27th and\nwill serve as a closing ceremony; talks about different aspects of the sector;\nco-production and business forum; dialogues with the finalist works and, for\nthe first time, some of the works are available to the public through the online\nplatforms Retina Latina &amp; Filmin. You can find all the activities program <a href=\"https:\/\/premiosquirino.org\/en\/schelude\/\">here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JUNE 27<sup>th<\/sup>:\nAWARDS CEREMONY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Quirino\nMonth will culminate on June 27th with the awards ceremony and the animated\nphotocall in which the winning works in the nine categories of the awards will\nbe announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A<a href=\"https:\/\/premiosquirino.org\/en\/finalists\/\"> total of 22 works<\/a> from ten countries in the region (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay) will dispute the statuettes of this third edition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Portuguese\nanimation is the most represented with ten candidates, while Spain presents\nseven finalists, followed by Argentina (6), Brazil (4), Colombia (2), Bolivia\n(2), Chile (1), Mexico (1), Uruguay (1) and Paraguay (1). The Portuguese school\nshort film &#8220;Nestor&#8221;, co-produced with the United Kingdom, is the work\nwith more nominations (4); followed by the Spanish feature film\n&#8220;Klaus&#8221; and the Portuguese short film &#8220;Uncle Thomas Accounting\nfor the Days&#8221;, with three nominations each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selection\nhas been made by an international jury composed of the Colombian Alfredo Marun\n(Development Director at Disney Television Animation); Polish Anja Franczak\n(Creative Producer in Human Ark); the Salvadorian Simon Vladimir Varela\n(Production Designer and Visual Development Artist for several studios,\nincluding Pixar, Disney, Warner Bros, Sony Animation, Fox and Universal); the\nAmerican Vera Verba (Manager of the Sesame Workshop YouTube Channel) and the\nFrench Veronique Encrenaz (Director of MIFA Annecy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"IBERO-AMERICAN ANIMATION QUIRINO AWARDS\u2019 FINALISTS 2020\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XTOt7GCBXik?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>Video resume of all finalists<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The four feature\nfilms that qualify for the Quirino Award are: the Argentine-Spanish co-production\n\u201cTuru, the Wacky Hen\u201d, by V\u00edctor Monigote and Eduardo Gondell; the Argentine\n\u201cThe Longleg\u201d by Mercedes Moreira; the Colombian \u201cReconciliation Stories\u201d by\nCarlos Santa and Rub\u00e9n Monroy; and the Spanish &#8220;Klaus&#8221; by Sergio\nPablos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For its part, the\nfinalist series are the Portuguese \u201cCrias &#8211; Crocodiles\u201d, co-produced with\nFrance; the Spanish &#8220;Momonsters&#8221;; the Mexican \u201cSpace Chickens in\nSpace\u201d, co-produced with the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia; and the\nBrazilian \u201cTain\u00e1 and the Amazon&#8217;s Guardians\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the short\nfilms category, the candidates are the Colombian \u201cThe Cubicbird\u201d by Jorge\nAlberto Vega and the Portuguese \u201cPurpleboy\u201d by Alexandre Siqueira,\nco-production with Belgium and France, and \u201cUncle Thomas: Accounting for the\nDays\u201d by Regina Pessoa, co-production with Canada and France<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IBERO-AMERICAN\nCO-PRODUCTION AND BUSINESS FORUM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the third\nedition of the Co-Production and Business Forum of the Quirino Awards, which\nhas the collaboration of ICEX, Animation From Spain and PROEXCA, more than 90\ncompanies from 19 countries participate. Throughout a month, representatives of\nchannels, distributors and producers have the opportunity to know, through\nonline meetings with Ibero-American professionals, different projects from the\n23 countries of the Ibero-American region. These scheduled B2B meetings make a total\nof more than 800 meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adult Swim,\nDiscovery Kids, Cartoon Network, Disney TV Animation, Pakapaka, RTVE, Playkids,\nSesame Workshop, PGS, Zodiak Kids, Toonz Media, Dandeloo, GFM Films, Monster\nEntertainment, Planeta Junior, Kreiworks, Indie Sales, Autour de Minuit,\nAlterego, Xilam Animation, Metrovision, Spirit Animation, Red Animation, Human\nArk, Ikki Films, \u00c1nima, Momakin and Barley Films are some of the channels,\ndistributors and production companies that have participated in this edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To stand out, the\nmeeting between the Ibermedia Program and the sector associations in the region.\nIn addition to Elena Vilardell and V\u00edctor S\u00e1nchez, Technical and Executive\nSecretary and General Coordinator of the Ibermedia Program and Concha Diaz,\nCoordinator of the Tenerife Film Commission; the Argentine associations Animar\nCluster and APA C\u00f3rdoba Animation Producers Association; the Bolivian Animators\nNetwork; the Brazilian Association of Animated Cinema; GEMA Colombia \u2013 Group of\nAnimation Companies; the Chilean Animachi; Animation Costa Rica; Group of Animators\nof Ecuador; the Spanish Diboos; the Mexican Jalisco Creativo, Association of\nDigital Creatives of Mexico and Pixelatl; Paraguay Animation; Peru Animation;\nthe Portuguese Casa da Anima\u00e7ao; and Tenerife&#8217;s SAVE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Quirino\nAwards<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The awards are\nnamed after the creator of the first animated feature film in history, the\nItalian-Argentine Quirino Cristiani, who in 1917 directed &#8220;The\nApostle&#8221;; an Argentine production in which 58,000 drawings made by hand\nand shot in 35 mm were used, in addition to several models representing public\nbuildings and the streets of the city of Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Quirino\nAwards, which have the main sponsorship of the Cabildo de Tenerife through the\nTenerife Film Commission, reflect the determined commitment that has been made\nfor years to animation on the island.
