Animation series \u2018Cleo\u2019, documentary \u2018So\u00f1ando con alas\u2019 and the \u2018Ann Summers\u2019 commercials have obtained this recognition, which was created following a proposal by FICMEC<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Turismo de Tenerife, through its Tenerife Film Commission, presented its first three sustainable production labels on Friday during the Asamblea del Cl\u00faster Audiovisual de Canarias. The label was created following a suggestion of the Festival Internacional de Cine Medioambiental de Canarias (FICMEC) [Canary Islands Environmental Film Festival]. La Casa Animada\u2019s third season of its animation series Cleo<\/em>; the documentary So\u00f1ando con alas, <\/em>produced by Birding Canarias; and the photos and commercials of Ann Summers,<\/em> with production services by Canary Productions received the award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2018, Tenerife Film Commission (TFC) has been working hard to implement sustainable practices in film productions shot on the island. Sustainability understood in its broadest sense, in accordance with the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals and taking into account economic, social and environmental aspects to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and secure prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In collaboration with the Festival Internacional de Cine Medioambiental de Canarias (FICMEC), Tenerife Film Commission has implemented a sustainability strategy in the past years. It has produce a ten-point good practice guide for sustainable productions<\/a> (download<\/a>), in addition to giving training to raise awareness among professionals and create a sustainable label through a checklist <\/a> for suppliers, real image or animation productions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout 2019 and 2020 a pilot project of sustainable productions was carried out with three productions that have now received their sustainable label.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cleo<\/em>. Third season, directed by Ana S\u00e1nchez-Gij\u00f3n, produced by La Casa Animada in co-production with RTVE. In the third season of children\u2019s animation series, which is fully created and developed at La Casa Animada studio in Tenerife, they focused their basic sustainable goals on energy efficiency, mobility, and the use of stationery or recycling at the office.\u00a0 Some other more specific goals included improving sustainability in scriptwriting or using \u201cgreen\u201d communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Cleo <\/em>has included energy-efficient power supplies for their computers and has met other goals in their office like waste management, circular economy, etc. This production was done in 2019 and 2020 and will be available soon on Clan TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So\u00f1ando con alas<\/em> by Germ\u00e1n Pinelo and Juan Jos\u00e9 Ramos produced by Birding Canarias. This documentary was shot in different parts of Spain and it deals with a growing world phenomenon: people who despite having very different lifestyles and living in very different places share a passion for watching, studying, and enjoying bird. It is a story about nature geeks. A film about birds through the eyes of those who dream with wings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birding Canarias is sustainable by nature and that is why they cut down the number of locations as much as possible, they protected them, and had lunch in the nearest restaurants while on location, thus helping the local economy. As it was an intimate sort of documentary, they did not use generators. They also collaborated with different NGOs like SEO\/BirdLife, Urdaibai Bird Center, Birding Strait or Do\u00f1ana Bird Fair. This feature-length documentary finished shooting in 2019 and has been screened at different festivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ann Summers<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ann Summers<\/em>, an English photoshoot and commercial shoot with production services provided by Canary Productions. This production of lingerie brand Ann Summers<\/em> was shot on one day of December in Tenerife with an 18-strong crew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As commercial shootings are fast-paced, Canary Productions Drew up a sustainability plan by filling in a checklist before shooting began. They also told the crew about their intention of carrying out a sustainable production and gave them some advice to achieve their goals. They established an environmental memo to shoot on location at the protected area of Playa Pelada and bought re-usable equipment like bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through these productions, which were each of a very different nature and involved in sustainability, Tenerife has become the first place in Spain to grant this sustainable production label.
