These waters are home to a colony of bottlenose dolphins and around 400 pilot whales <\/strong>throughout the year. The area was declared a “Special Area of Conservation” in September 2011 and is included in the Natura 2000 network, which aims to ensure the survival of these species. The island of Tenerife also has a sustainability charter<\/a> for these observations. As a result, it is possible to choose a boat trip with a responsible company; these companies are committed to respecting cetaceans and their environment, while offering a concrete and enriching tourist experience.
