Tenerife Lighthouse to Lighthouse Ultra Alpine Race

24 September 2017

A time limit of 46 hours and two nights out in the open represent the gruelling challenge faced by the pairs who take part in this race. The route covers a distance of 171 km with a total ascent of 9.790 m, from sea level to a maximum height of 3718 m. Perhaps the most significant feature of the tough course -possibly unique among events of its type in Europe- is that over 45 km will be run at more than 2000 m above sea level. This high-mountain component is a crucial part of the Ultra Alpine seal. The race departs at 8pm on the night of Friday 22 September from the Teno Lighthouse and takes runners through Santiago del Teide, Samara, Pico Viejo, Pico del Teide, Montaña Limón, Ayoza, La Esperanza, Mesa Mota, Anaga and its lighthouse. It ends at the oldest maritime marker in the Canaries, the Farola del Mar Lighthouse in the port of Santa Cruz, an iconic building for both the capital and the island of Tenerife as a whole.
