Afrotopos: Towards an African Utopia
02 August 2019
01 December 2019
This exhibition draws inspiration from the work done by renowned Senegalese scholar Felwine Sarr and his book published by Casa Africa in 2018, translated into Spanish by Alba Rodríguez García, from the Canary Islands.
The show ofers a variety of views on Africa, opposing the colonial, Eurocentric perspective, pessimistic and condescending, to a fresher, more contemporary look – Afrotopos – proposed by Africans themselves on the basis of their society and culture, and their mythology. These two ways of looking at the African continent are illustrated in two different exhibition areas.
