Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2019
The Deep Sea is the theme for the year’s biggest celebration in the Tenerife capital. Carnival gets under way officially with the opening ceremony on 1 February, which is followed by the various competitions held throughout the month: junior ‘murgas’ (satirical singers) (from 7 to 9 February); adult ‘murgas’ (from 11 to 15 February); Carnival Queen Contests (junior: 17th, Senior Citizens: 20th, and Adult: 27 February). The party takes to the streets on 1 March for the Grand Opening Parade, followed by the rhythm and harmony competition the following day. The Daytime Carnival takes place on both 3 and 9 March, while the closing parade hits the city streets on the evening of 5 March. Proceedings come to a close with the performance by Nifú-Nifá and fireworks display on 10 March.
