Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife 2023

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is getting ready for a new Carnival season – one of the best in the world and a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest. This year, Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will honour New York City. As usual, the programme includes a wide range of activities, which are expected to draw large numbers of visitors.

Contests are an important aspect of Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Held at the Tenerife Trade Fair and Congress Centre, they include krewe and music band competitions, as well as Carnival Queen pageants for both women and girls. The Carnival Queen Gala will take place on 15 February.

Carnival in Tenerife is also about street celebrations. On 17 February, everyone is invited to join the Carnival Opening Parade, led by the Carnival Queen. On 18 February in the afternoon, it will be the turn of bands and krewes with the Ritmo y Armonía (Rhythm & Harmony) Competition. Day celebrations have been scheduled on 19 and 25 February. Tuesday 21 – Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras – is Big Carnival Parade or Coso Apoteosis day. Finally, the Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine) will be on Wednesday 22.
