Corpus Christi in Tenerife

Various towns in Tenerife stage one of the island’s oldest religious celebrations, in which families, associations, schools and groups make street carpets out of flowers and sand. The sketching and laying out of the carpets on the roads begins the night before Corpus Christi Day and the painstaking work lasts well into the following morning. The most important street carpets can be seen in La Laguna, Guía de Isora, Tacoronte, El Sauzal, Los Silos, Adeje (2 and 3 de June) and La Orotava (7 June).
