Der Diktator (The Dictator) and Der Kaiser von Atlantis (The Emperor of Atlantis)

The Tenerife Auditorium is staging two operas by Austrian composers from the first half of the twentieth century dealing with totalitarianism with a sardonic grin. The performances, featuring the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, will be conducted by Pedro Halffter.

When Ernst Krenek wrote Der Diktator, in 1928, fascism was in full swing in Italy and making its way in Germany. As to Der Kaiser von Atlantis, it was composed by Viktor Ullmann in a concentration camp in 1943.
