Every year, on 29 November, Puerto de la Cruz hosts the last event on its festive calendar: the Feast of St Andrew. St Andrew’s Festival is associated with the opening of wineries and the tasting of freshly made wine, paired with roasted chestnuts and sardines or other fish.

In most towns in Northern Tenerife, on the eve of St Andrew’s Day (29 November), locals gather in the main square (in Puerto de la Cruz, Plaza del Charco) carrying “snakes” made of metal objects: tins, old home appliances, old tools, etc. As it moves, all this clutter makes an unmistakable jangling noise.

The event is enjoyed not just by Puerto de la Cruz locals but by visitors as well.
