May Festival in Los Realejos 2023

Like every year in May, Los Realejos is getting all dressed up for its popular May Festival. The opening speech, to be delivered by television host Raúl Arencibia, will be part of an opening gala that pays tribute to local folklore traditions. The gala will be held where the Festival’s main stage will be located: in Plaza Viera y Clavijo, in the district of Realejo Alto.

The May Festival combines popular customs and traditions with extraordinary firework shows. Highlights include the Cross Tour in Cruz Santa on 2 May and the Santa Cruz Cross Tour and Firework Show in Mount Los Frailes on 3 May.

Joining the celebration, people open their windows, decorate their home crosses and get dressed in finery. They all want to celebrate life and have a good time. Families sit at home and watch the Holy Wood, St Isidore, Our Lady of the Head and Our Lady of Remedies go by on their floats, along with parrandas (groups of people having fun), romeros (pilgrims) and fogueteros (firework makers).
