St John’s Festival in Puerto de la Cruz 2022

Every year, throughout the month of June, Puerto de la Cruz – a city in the northern part of Tenerife – celebrates the feast of St John in style.

On St John’s Eve (24 June), the goatherds from La Orotava Valley come to the coastal area in Puerto de la Cruz to give their goats a bath in the Atlantic Ocean. This not-to-be-missed original tradition dates back to the old days of the Guanches (one of the aboriginal peoples living on the island), who were skilled shepherds.
