St Peter the Apostle’s Festival in El Sauzal 2023

The town of El Sauzal is paying tribute to St Peter the Apostle in a festival including all kinds of activities and events in a lively atmosphere. Celebrations begin on 15 June, World Tapas Day, with people gathering in Plaza de San Pedro. The Festival’s Queen is chosen in the Queen Pageant on 23 June.

29 June, the feast of St Peter, is a day for religious activities: Holy Communion and send-off of Our Lady of the Angels in a torch-lit procession to Her shrine. The Festival ends on 2 July, the main festival day, with several activities: a variety show, traditions such as the so-called “Bajada del Arco” (grabbing foods from a wooden arch held in the air by a sort of stick) and La Cucaña (a Canarian version of “Climbing the Greasy Pole”), the procession of St Peter the Apostle and a fireworks offering.
