25 July Historical Events – 225th anniversary

The 25^th of July, 1797 was a key day in the history of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The Spanish forces defeated the Royal Navy, led by Rear-Admiral Horatio Nelson, after the latter’s amphibious assault on the Spanish port city. Today, the feat is commemorated with a re-enactment of the naval battle, with roles played by professional performers and local residents alike.

The year 2022 marks the 225^th anniversary of these historical events. It will be celebrated with the usual re-enactment, staged by the 25^th of July 1797 Historical Events Cultural and Historical Association, whose main activity is to organise this annual celebration.
