A new adaptation of Les Misérables, a classic of universal literature, is being staged at the Leal Theatre by Habemus Teatro. Written by French author Victor Hugo and published in 1862, Les Misérables is considered one of the greatest novels of the nineteenth century.

In addition to being a literary masterpiece, Les Misérables elaborates on poverty and suffering, politics, moral philosophy, justice, and the types and nature of love. Beginning in 1815 and culminating in the 1832 June Rebellion in Paris, the novel follows the lives and interactions of several characters, particularly the struggles of ex-convict Jean Valjean, his experience of redemption and his fear of the town’s police inspector, Javert.
