From 23 November 2023 to 21 January 2024, the Palmetum botanical garden in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is hosting a very special exhibition that evokes the voyages across the ocean in the European Age of Discovery. A journey through the senses, Explorium is this year’s installation of the Naturaleza encendida (Lit-Up Nature) project – a light art show that is a fascinating, dreamlike experience. Explorium is a tribute to the Magellan-Elcano expedition, the sixteenth-century expedition planned and led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and completed by Spanish navigator Juan Sebastián Elcano after Magellan’s death, crossing the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans, and culminating in the first circumnavigation of the world. A real adventure into uncharted territory that changed the world as we knew it.
