Thousands of visitors head to Garachico to take part in one of Tenerife’s most popular and traditional fiestas. Pilgrims converge on the small church of St Roch and the saint’s image is then carried to St Anne’s church in the town centre, where a religious service is held at noon. The popular country fair gets under way at 1pm. The image of the saint is taken back to its home church in a procession accompanied by a band, ox-drawn carts, flocks of animals, animals in harnesses, together with singing and instrumental groups. In parallel, Garachico fishermen stage a maritime procession, with their boats accompanying the image of the saint along the coast.
