Our Lady of Good Voyage and St Elmo’s Procession

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is getting ready for a new procession honouring Our Lady of Good Voyage and St Elmo, a traditional event that is becoming increasingly popular. On the day before the event, the paintings of St Elmo and Our Lady of Good Voyage are taken on a procession in the Shrine of San Telmo and the Main Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción.

The main procession involves pilgrims wearing traditional peasant clothes, singing traditional songs and performing traditional dances, as well as decorated animal-driven wagons. The farmers, the musical ensembles (known as rondallas), the dancing groups and the animals – all of them decked out for the event – are all essential to pull the wagons.
