The northern town of Icod de los Vinos stages one of its most popular celebrations: the Running of the Boards on St Andrew’s Night. Created to mark the annual uncorking of the new wines at local wineries, the event sees young people take to greased toboggan-like boards to launch themselves down the steep streets of various parts of the town. The sight of the most daring ones hurtling at top speed along Calle del Plano is truly spectacular.
