Ópera de Tenerife presents The Old Maid and the Thief, an opera by Italian-American composer Gian Carlo Menotti. The production features Javier Lanis (conductor and pianist), Silvia Zorita (mezzo-soprano), Fernando Campero (baritone), Candelaria González and Estefanía Perdomo (sopranos), and Javier Socorro and Joel Hernández (actors).
The Old Maid and the Thief is a radio opera in one act. It was premiered on NBC Radio in 1939. An opera buffa, it focuses on secrets and gossip in a small, seemingly quiet, town. Its success led Menotti to adapt the opera slightly so it could be performed on the stage.
