Trail description

The landscape of La Mesa affords breathtaking panoramic views of the Valley of Güímar and the chance to discover some of the most significant species of local and endemic flora and fauna that typically live among the tabaibas, cardons and pine trees. Moreover, hikers will be walking through the Protected Nature Area of the Corona Forestal Natural Park. The land still bears signs of the agricultural work that went on there years ago, with fields growing cereal crops, fruit trees and vines. The trail begins in the La Florida Ravine, in the village of Araya. Follow it up to the estate of Las Haciendas, a property of considerable value as it contains a traditional Canarian building. As you venture into Corona Forestal Natural Park, the landscape transforms to surround you with pine trees, especially the local Canarian variety. At an altitude of 550 m (1,805 ft) stands the house of Casa de La Mesa, a 19th century building that comprises a house, a wine press, a stable and a farmyard. The building was used by the peasants who worked the land communally. From here, the trail features several stone stretches, heading down along a windy path to the mouth of the Chacorche Ravine, where your hike ends. Alternatively, you can start your trail at the Chacorche Ravine and finish at the La Florida Ravine in Araya.
