Gaspar de Quevedo
The painter Gaspar de Quevedo was born in La Orotava in 1616 and studied in Seville with Miguel Güelles. It was in the city of Seville that he received his robes and became a priest. His work is in the Baroque style, influenced by Sevillian and Flamenco artwork, and is on show in a number of Catholic churches in Tenerife, such as the chapel of El Calvario de la Orotava and the church of Santa Catalina in Tacoronte. The Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Cruz houses his Inmaculada painting of the Lercaro Justiniani family.
