Valentín Sanz

Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in 1849, Sanz studied in Seville and Madrid, as well as working as a professor in the San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts in Cuba. He was considered the first landscape artist in the Canary Islands. His work tackles the issue of light and colour with great character, nearing on impressionism. Some of his work is displayed at the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Santa Cruz, such as El Paisaje de La Laguna (The Landscape of La Laguna).
