Antonio de Viana

Born in La Laguna in 1578 and a doctor by trade. He was commissioned by Juan de Guerra Ayala to create a piece entitled Antigüedades de las Islas Afortunadas (Antiques of the Fortunate Islands). The poem is comprised of 16 songs focusing on the topic of the conquest of Tenerife. Its main assets are its literary quality and the wealth of historical information it contains.
