Shepherd jumping

Shepherd jumping is a local sport that consists of crossing deep ravines and the most precipitous landscapes of the Canary Islands with the sole aid of a wooden pole with a metal tip (a tool traditionally used by shepherds). The challenge requires great skill and was actually carried out by Canarian aborigines in order to cover long distances across treacherous land. Today, the need that gave rise to it no longer exists but the essence of it lives on as a sport.
