Bentor led the last battle against the conquistadors
Send page by mail
The story of the Guanche King Bentor demonstrates the fierce resistance to the European invasion. Bentor or Bentorey, son of Bencomo (another important king in the resistance against the invasion) fought the last battle against the Spanish army. Though he was defeated, rather than surrendering he threw himself from the Tigaiga Ravine, in the district of Los Realejos. There is a sculpture located at the Lance Viewpoint that commemorates this historic event.
