The Regional Winery, Bodega Comarcal Valle de Güímar, is located in the borough of Arafo, on the road up to Mount Teide. It stands in the midst of nature, with an agricultural landscape and silence all around and with breathtaking views of the Güímar Valley.
The architectural beauty of the winery makes a visit to the facilities highly recommendable. The expert staff explain the preparation process of the different kinds of wine, including the sparkling wine made by the méthode champenoise, ending with some wine-tasting.
The winery was created in 1989 when fifteen vintners came together in the conviction that this was the way to prepare high-quality wines, producing at that time some 15,000 bottles of wine a year. Nowadays, there are 152 vintners who cultivate their vines throughout the year with a great deal of work and effort as their vineyards are on volcanic soil located at between 300 and 1500 metres above sea level (the highest in Spain), in areas with difficult access, not suited to mechanical methods and without water for irrigation: an amazing example of heroic viticulture.
The winery sells its wines under the Brumas de Ayosa and Pico Cho Marcial labels, in tribute to the two natural monuments in the Valley, and with the quality certification of the Valle de Güímar (Arafo, Candelaria and Güímar) Designation of Origin. The winery has won many regional, national and international awards. It is a white-wine producer of recognised prestige, mainly with its fruity Brumas de Ayosa (blue bottle). It also prepares one of the highest quality sparkling wines, a brut nature, and the best brut nature “reserva” anywhere in the Canaries.
