Trail description
This accessible and well-signposted trail sets off from El Portillo Visitors Centre to explore the Botanical Gardens of the National Park. These gardens cover an area of 4 hectares (almost 10 acres) and were created especially to display, teach about, research and reproduce the region's autochthonous flora. Over 75% of the higher plant species in Teide National Park can be found here. The gardens are equipped with signs, laboratories with germination chambers and a germplasm bank. Hard work goes on here to restore species in danger of extinction. These facilities currently boast international backing and approval for their plans to recover endangered plant species. After following the recommended round tour, you will leave the gardens the way you came in. A visit to both storeys of the Visitors Centre before going in will round off your tour.
