How to organise your volcanic experience in a few simple steps

1.CHOOSE THE TERRITORY YOU WISH TO EXPLORE

Take your pick of the Island's five volcanic territories to explore its most mysterious side. You can choose the territory that's in the area where you are staying, or venture to the opposite side of the Island so you get to discover other parts of Tenerife. Or try mixing a bit of each and combining one territory and another in a single day, or in several days if you have the time.

Keep in mind the different activities we recommend for you in each territory. The idea is for you to make the very most of your surroundings, but these are just suggestions – choose the ones that are of most interest to you and add whatever you want.

2.DOWNLOAD THE MAP

3.DECIDE WHICH PLACES AND ACTIVITIES YOU PREFER

Choose what you want to do in your area(s) of choice. You can get involved in some sports, try the local cuisine, take part in a traditional celebration or, if you prefer, hire a company to organise a customised route specially for you.

Advice

What will we ask of you? Not very much at all. We know you are coming to spend a few restful days, to get away from it all and have fun, and that is exactly what we want you to do.

We want you to enjoy an unforgettable experience on the Island, exploring its volcanoes. But, in order to ensure that you and any other visitors coming to Tenerife, both now and in the future, can continue to have fun for years to come, all we ask as that you heed some simple advice:

- Do not litter. Remember that most of the places you will be visiting are protected natural areas, so it is important that you leave as small and clean a footprint as possible, if any at all. Do your best to ensure that you leave everything just as you found it.

- Follow the route marked by the trail. Each of the territories is home to endemic plants and animals, including tiny insects that may be very rare or in danger of extinction. Bear in mind that if you step off the trail and stand on them, it is more than an individual loss; you could be putting the survival of the whole species at risk, and we know you would never forgive yourself for that.

- Do not take stones away with you as a souvenir. Not only is this prohibited, but in doing so you will be altering the landscape and its beauty. In the long run, neither you nor anyone else will want to come to a place that has been damaged and no longer looks like nature's creation.

- Wear comfortable clothing and footwear, and protect yourself from the sun by using sunscreen and sunglasses if need be.
