35th Canary Islands’ International Classical Music Festival

The programme for this year’s 35th Canary Islands’ International Classical Music Festival –organised by the regional government and the only cultural event that takes classical music to all corners of the Canaries – features prestigious orchestras, top conductors and soloists, and the farewell concert by renowned pianist María Joao Pires. Directed by Jorge Perdigón, the Festival takes place from 10 January until 10 February 2019. It opens with the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the concerto opera “Ariadne auf Naxos” by Richard Strauss, and closes with the Jordi Savall-Hespèrion XXI Ensemble performance of “The Routes of Slavery 1444-1888”. This year’s Festival also welcomes the Gran Canaria Philharmonic Orchestra, with a production of Verdi’s Requiem; the Hamburg Philharmonic led by Kent Nagano and violinist Veronika Eberle; the St Petersburg Philharmonic with conductor Temirkanov and pianist George Li; the Bremen German Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra led by David Afkham; the Cadaqués Orchestra, with conductor Anu Taili and pianist Joaquín Archúcarro; the Quiroga Quartet with renowned pianist Martha Argerich; the London Conchord Ensemble; Tenerife Baroque Orchestra; Minsk Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra and the aforementioned special concert by Pires.
